Faithful Navigators Special Report on the New Uniform

Brother Sir Knights,

Vivat Jesus,

This past Saturday was the Michigan District II meeting which was held in Dewitt and was attended by Matt Lockwood and Jason Lefebvre. A very special thank you to both of them!

I also received information from other sources that at this meeting some assemblies in attendance were discussing ways that they were assisting to defray some of the cost of the new Uniform for their current Honor Guard members and SK who wish to join the ranks of the Honor Guard.

So at this time I am proposing as an Assembly we consider offering financial assistance to our members. What that amount will be is unclear at this time but I would suggest we do at least $100 and that we not exceed a maximum of $250 per current Honor Guard members (and anyone wishing to join the Honor Guard as well) through the 2017-2018 Fraternal year (ending June 30th 2018). Many Assemblies are currently offering the $250.00 per member with proof of purchase. We must remember that nowhere is it required that a Fourth Degree member must purchase the new Uniform, unless that member intends to be part of the Honor Guard. The new Uniform will be the only Honor Guard Uniform allowed starting July 1, 2018. Hopefully this will help some of you when it comes time to decide on ordering the new uniform or not.

I know this proposal must be voted on at our next regularly scheduled meeting on October 5th which is after the Supreme September 30, 2017 deadline for a 25% discount. And I am hoping for some good discussion in regards to this issue and know that we as an Assembly will do what is right for our members. If the Assembly so votes and a member orders his uniform prior to the September 30 deadline the cost of the uniform could be reduced by $375.00 bringing the cost to the member to just approximately $135.00.

I have checked with our Comptroller and Purser and yes we currently do have the funds available to cover all current active Color Corps members and pay all our 2017-18 projected bills; plus we have two major fundraisers and our annual dues upcoming, the first being the Flag program and the second our placemat program.

I would strongly encourage our current Color Corps members to pray on this proposition and consider all the good we do as we stand guard for our Fallen Brothers, take part in special Church liturgies, and spread the word to keep Christ in Christmas, show our Patriotism as we join the 4th of July Parade and so many more events. Many of these events and ceremonies, without a strong Honor Guard after July 1, 2018, our Assembly just won’t be able to do and we will be saying no to our Councils and Priests.

Those of you wishing to order the new Uniform can get fitted at no cost at Men’s Warehouse and it will take approximately 10 minutes to do so. You will need this information to order your new uniform on line at www.knightsgear.com . (Feel free to call me with any questions)

Don’t forget that we are under a deadline of September 30th to get the discounted cost from Supreme. This discount along with what the Assembly decides could make a big difference in cost that any member would have to incur with this change.

I personally have ordered my new Uniform and I am looking forward to serving in our Assemblies Honor Guard now and in the future.

NAVIGATOR’S COMMENTS

Brother Sir Knights,

Vivat Jesus!

40 Days for Life Opening Prayer Service Sep 26, 2017, 6:30 PM
Join us on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood to worship God through prayer and song and seek His blessing on this work we will do for His Glory! Bishop Earl Boyea of the Lansing Diocese, Fr. Brian Lenz, Parochial Vicar of St. John the Evangelist Parish and St. Joseph Oratory, and Elder Jeffrey Whitson, City on a Hill Church, Olivet will participate. Public right-of-way in front of Planned Parenthood 2009 W. Michigan Ave. Jackson, MI 49202. The Assembly has signed up for every Thursday from 5pm ~ 6pm. (This will give us the opportunity to make it to the monthly meeting on time for the potluck before the meeting begins.) Parking in northeast corner of strip mall two doors west of PP. Please park as far away from the businesses as possible. Please stand on sidewalk. Out of courtesy please step back when cars are leaving PP so they can have a clear view of oncoming traffic. Please do not set items on the stony area. Thank you!
Color Corp Uniform Update The color patches to be added behind the emblem on the beret to designate rank have been ordered.  Supreme is working out the details.  There may be a drop down box on the Knights Gear order page to indicate rank.  They will be mailed out when details are complete.
Exemplifications - Candidates can wear a dark business suit, black, navy or gray or if they choose, a tuxedo is OK.  Tuxedo is not necessary, spectators can also wear a dark business suit if they choose.
Installation of officers – If they have the new uniform, they can wear that.  After June 30, 2018 if they do not have the new uniform, then they must wear a dark business suit.
Exemplars – they can continue to wear robes if that is what they wear now.
Special Sizes -- are now available on Knights Gear.
Effective June 30, 2018 the regalia will be retired.  The official uniform of the Fourth Degree is the new uniform.  No one is obligated to buy the new uniform, however all Color Corps must be in the new uniform come June 30, 2018.
Questions from VSM’s
Social Baldric at exemplifications – do we eliminate?  If the candidate is wearing a dark suit, then yes, no social baldric is given.  Supreme is in the process of re-writing the drill manual and the Laws and Rules which will be distributed when complete.
Can a 3rd degree member order the new uniform?  If he is scheduled to take his 4th degree, yes he can order.
The cost of $510 is the Supreme cost for the uniform, there is no profit on their part.
Can the service baldric be the same color as the patch in regards to rank?  No, we are using the colors of the country for the baldric. How should the men be lined up with old regalia and new?  The members with the new uniform should be first and the old regalia to follow.
Is the June 30, 2018 date firm?  Yes, as of June 30, 2018 the old regalia will be retired.  Remember, no one has to buy the new uniform; they can simply be a regular fourth degree member.
If the church says ‘no swords’, what is to be worn?  Wear the service baldric and gloves, no sword.
At an Exemplification, what about the line guards?  We will only have the new uniform after June 30, 2018, so the Marshals will have to manage the lines.
Is the tuxedo to be worn at the installation of officers and re-obligation of vows?  A dark business suit or tuxedo may be worn.  After June 30, 2018 tuxedos cannot be worn by the team, all team members must be in uniform.
Spectators at an Exemplification can wear a tux or a dark business suit.  Degree teams can wear robes as they normally do.
This information, combined with the Supreme Knight's release and the FAQ's posted on the Supreme website constitute all the official information I've received to date.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Remember - the 25% discount for the new uniform expires on September 30th.

Patriotic Degree Uniform Update

mi_dist_2_header

Here is the Update as of Friday, August 11th
I know the social media mill is cranking out all kinds of information and rumors – so let me update you as to the information I have received this week from our Vice Supreme Master Don Hall and VSM-Select Cliff Wasmund.
As for now, the dress code for the CC is status quo.  At the Provincial meeting in September, the VSM and Masters will be discussing and developing a mutually agreed upon time frame as to the implementation of the new uniform within our Province while staying within Supreme's directives.
All new CC members that need to purchase their new regalia should be directed to purchase the new uniform.
The sole supplier of the new uniform is Knightsgear, the official supplier of K of C apparel and supplies.  Cost is $510.00 plus shipping (I ordered mine yesterday and shipping was $35.10).  The uniform is copyrighted and can only be purchased through Knightsgear.  At this time, you can only purchase this uniform as a complete set, no separates.  With the anticipated high volume of orders, speedy delivery should not be expected.
The pants come un-hemmed – so you will need some tailoring – no cuffs, plain hem.
You will have to buy you own shirt – a plain white, point color (not spread or button down) dress shirt.  Button cuffs – no French cuffs.
Black socks and plain black shoes are to be worn with the new uniform.
There will be NO name badges worn with the new uniform.
Only the 4th Degree pin PG113 is to be worn with the new uniform.
At this time, the only "flash" worn behind the 4th Degree pin on the beret will be light blue for current and former VSMs, and gold for current and former Masters.  No other flashes will be available.  The pin on the beret will be silver for all members (VSM’s, MFD’s and formers will be gold).
The jewel of current office and miniature medals will be the only distinguishing items for current officers.  No adornments for CC Commander and others who do not currently have a jewel of office has been announced.
While it has been indicated that the sword will be kept as part of the new uniform, it will not be worn with the new uniform at this time.  However, Supreme is investigating the use of the sword in the future and how it will be incorporated into the new uniform.
As for Exemplifications, the future dress of the Candidate will be a dark business suit (colors could be black, dark grey, dark blue, even dark brown), plain white shirt with lay down collar (no button down collars), plain dark tie (no bow ties), dark shoes and dark socks.  The Master may elect to switch to the dark suit after depleting his inventory of social baldrics.  It will be the Master's decision to have ALL their candidates dress in either a tuxedo or dark business suit - this an either or decision.
The Social Baldric can only be used with the tuxedo.
The ceremonials will need to be modified to reflect the Master's new uniform and the deletion of the social baldric.
There has been no date provided for the release of an updated CC manual.
Please continue to send me questions and constructive comments.  I will be incorporating all these to submit to the VSM-Select for discussion and decision when we meet at the Provincial meeting in September.  I have passed on the comments and concerns I have already received.
Please remember our chain of command and direct your inquiries and comments to me and do not contact the VSM, VSM-Select or Supreme without speaking to me first.
I am very aware this change has caused great concern and upset many of our dedicated Color Corp members.  I know change is not easy – especially when it is so sudden and with very little details regarding the reason behind it and the plan for implementation.  Please keep an open mind as the Provincial leadership works to fill in some of the blanks at our September meeting.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we work to keep Michigan District II the best in the Order.
MICHIGAN DISTRICT II's 74th EXEMPLIFICATION
Fall Exemplification will be held Wednesday, October 18th in Paw Paw.
Yes – a weeknight Exemplification.  Our numbers have been low for Fall Saturday Exemplifications due to a variety of competing interests – so we’ve decided to try a weeknight.
The exemplification will be held at St. Mary School, 508 Paw Paw Street beginning with registration at 6:00 pm.   There will be a Ladies Program at the local Columbus hall, 32373 E Red Arrow Hwy, Paw Paw.  Following the Exemplification all the Sir Nights will be joining the Ladies for a light meal and refreshments.
Monday, October 16th at the Owosso Columbus Hall, 1259 E M-21, Owosso.  We will be conducting the dress rehearsal in Owosso. This exemp will be open for those who cannot attend on October 18 in Paw Paw.
More details and Souvenir Book ad forms will be coming out shortly – but mark your calendar and help build the Order by bringing in a new Knight to the Admissions Degree, then take him to a Major Degree so that he’s ready to attend the Patriotic Degree in October – either in Owosso or Paw Paw – which ever location or date works best for him!
PROVINCIAL MEETING
2017 Provincial Meeting will be held at Sawmill Creek Resort, 400 Sawmill Creek Dr., Huron, Ohio from September 8th – 10th.
If you are interested in attending, you can make your hotel reservations by contacting Sawmill Creek Resort at 800-729-6455, and make sure to ask for the Knights of Columbus special rate.

Thank you for your continued support of the Order and the Fourth Degree!

Installation of Officers

Worthy Brother Knights,

The Cardinal O'Hara Assembly has scheduled an Officer Installation for Wednesday, August 30th at the St. Louis Center in Chelsea.  It is located at 16195 W. Old US Hwy. 12, Chelsea, MI 48118.  We have collaborated with them and the Hudson Assemblies in the past (as encouraged by our Worthy Master) and want to invite you to attend the Installation.  The Worthy Master is asking that all officers in the Color Corp dress in regalia as there will be a CC certification that day.  We will need those in Color to be dressed and assembled no later than 6 pm to receive instructions and possible certification prior to the 6:30 mass.  The Installation will follow the mass along with a meal served at the conclusion.

Please let me know as soon as you can if you will plan to attend so that I let the Worthy Faithful Navigator of Cardinal O'Hare Assembly and our Worthy Master know that you are going to attend.  We also need to get an accurate count on attendance so the meal can be planned accordingly.

Thanks in advance for your prompt reply and I look forward to seeing you at the Installation!

Thank you to the Color Corp for coming out and supporting the Men’s event here at Fatima.

Brother Knight and Michigan District 2 Degree Marshall Phillip May passed away at age 52. Keep his wife Heidi and kids in your prayers.

There are new requirements for the Columbian Award. Council must have a Church Activity, example; 5th Sunday rosary. Keep yourself out in front of the parishioners at your church. Also wear your KofC name badge at church when you take part as a Greeter, Usher ect… be proud of being a Knight.

Invite everyone to Fish fry’s regardless of religious beliefs, it is a good introduction into the Knights of Columbus.

Also remember the Color Corp is the strongest recruiting tool we have. Think about that and go back to your Councils and get them involved. They cannot come out unless invited.
