NOVEMBER 2016

JACKSON AREA ASSEMBLY 2186 - NOVEMBER MEETING

November 3, 2016 at Fatima at 6:30 PM potluck dinner with our ladies at 7:30 PM Regular meeting

NAVIGATOR’S COMMENTS

Greetings from Lady Julie and Myself.

40 Days for Life is still going on for another 3 weeks. The Assembly has volunteered to support this activity and we have secured Thursday night from 6PM ~ 7PM for our prayer vigil. Would be nice to have more than 2 Sir Knights show up.                                                                                                                                                                          With that said, I did receive an email from our Worthy Sr. Marshall Bill Currie in regards to dress at these functions. His comment follows;  A question came up at the open meeting portion of the Provincial Meeting earlier this month about wearing regalia at a pro-life vigil.  It came down from Supreme Council that we were not to wear regalia.  He will try to get the memorandum stating this policy.

The Lansing Diocese meeting was held on Monday, October 17th. The primary agenda items were the upcoming Exemplification, Operation Patriotism, Provincial Meeting update, and planning for the remainder of the fraternal year. I will give a full report at our next Assembly meeting.

With the Exemplification fast approaching, we have been again asked to donate a basket for the Basket Raffle at the Exemplification Banquet hosted by the Ladies of Michigan District II. I have approved Lady Julie to proceed with getting the basket around and not to exceed $50 in doing so.

We have only received 1 application for the Exemplification at this time (disappointing to say the least). Gentlemen we will all need to work harder at making our yearly quota with the Spring Exempt.

The application for the Jackson Christmas parade has been sent in and I am waiting on acceptance of the parade board.  So please save the date of Friday, November 18th 2016 and remember all are welcome to join us in showing our Patriotism and our theme of “Keep Christ in Christmas” spirit as we did last year.

We will also need a motion at the next meeting to again this year take out a Billboard Ad for the “Keep Christ in Christmas” campaign.

The ladies will again be attending our meeting this month with the potluck beginning at 6:30pm and meeting at 7:30pm. For October, Lady Julie Cielen will be supplying Turkey for the main dish.                                               We will be going by last names for the rest of the potluck items.                                                                                                                   A – I Deserts, J- R Potatoes or Vegetable’s, S - Z Salads (Lettuce or Pasta)

The Assembly will pay for the cost of the Main Course, the Ladies will just need to turn in their bills to the Faithful Comptroller to get reimbursed.

See you at the November 3rd meeting.

In service to you!

Worthy Faithful Navigator,                                                                                                                                                                                         Al Cielen and Lady Jul

SEPTEMBER MEETING

September 1, 2016 at Fatima at 7:30 PM after potluck dinner with our ladies at 6:30 PM

NAVIGATOR’S COMMENTS

Greetings from Lady Julie and Myself.

I would like to thank you to the Officers of the Assembly for giving me the opportunity to serve you as Faithful Navigator for this fraternal year. Would also like to Thank David VanHoof for stepping forward and filing the Faithful Pilot position. With hard work and all of your support I know we will be able to accomplish a lot.

The item at the top of the list this year to accomplish is to get together a committee that will work at getting us a way to communicate to all of our members on a regular basis. We then need someone that is not an officer to take charge of this Monthly publication. [Newsletter, Website, email / mailing]

I would like to Thank Brother Matt Lockwood for taking the initiative to get this newsletter together and getting it out to all of you that have email address. Please pass the word on to all the Brothers Knights you may know who do not have email about activities going on with the Assembly.

We also want to start this year by inviting the ladies to join us on a regular basis for our monthly meetings. This means having good home cook meals at all of our meetings. YUM!

For September Lady Franssen will be supplying Chili for the main dish. We will be going by last names for the rest of the potluck items. A~I – Potatoes or Vegetable’s, J~R – Salads [Lettuce or Pasta], S~Z – Deserts

There will be Main Course sign – up sheet for the Ladies at the September1st meeting and the passing dishes will be on a rotating basis. The Assembly will pay for the cost of the Main Course, the Ladies will just need to turn in their bill to the Faithful Comptroller to get reimbursed.

Looking forward to serving you!

See you at the September 1st meeting.

Faithful Navigator Al Cielen and Lady Julie

St. Francis of Assisi’s Prayer for Peace

KofC Banner

Following a week of violence across the United States, the Knights of Columbus has called for a novena of prayer to heal the wounds and divisions afflicting this country.

Knights, their families and all people of good will are encouraged to join in the novena (nine days of prayer) that will run from July 14-22 by praying St. Francis of Assisi’s Prayer for Peace:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

“The violent episodes of the past week have shocked the conscience of our country,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “Through this prayer, each of us has the opportunity to help transcend hatred and violence by personally committing to the concepts of love of neighbor, peace and forgiveness that are central to an authentic embrace of Christianity. It is our hope that, from coast to coast, those who pray this prayer will become true instruments of peace.”

Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore also urged people to join this prayer campaign: “During this Year of Mercy, let us pray for an end to violence and senseless killings,” he said. “Through our prayers and good works, may we help build a society that is merciful, just and peaceful.”

Armor for the spiritual battle - 40 Days for Life

unnamed

Dear Friends,

We all know the infinite power of each and every Holy Mass. The 40 Days for Life is at the front lines of a fierce spiritual battle between life and death. What better armor  than to have Masses offered for the success of the 40 Days? Would you consider having a Mass at any parish offered for this intention one day during the 40 Days which will run from Sept. 28 – Nov. 6?  The stipend is usually only $10 and the return on the investment is eternal :)

Thank you,

Beth & Kathy
